Farm Camp

The Montclair History Center, Rutgers Cooperative Extension 4-H, and Montclair Community Farms partner each year to host a fun, nature and history-filled camp for youth to learn about our past and where our food comes from.

Farm Camp supports youth development by promoting a positive interest in nature, historical living, and agriculture.  Our mission is to provide the best camp experience for youth, while also providing a beneficial learning experience about food, animals, our earth, and its agricultural past. Our campers have the chance to be in the garden each day and participate in activities related to each age level’s theme.

Campers will spend their days on-site at 108 and 110 Orange Road. Here, they will have access to the Montclair History Center, Montclair Community Farm, historic houses, and large open spaces!

Counselor and counselors in training

Counselor positions for students 16+ and CIT positions for students ages 12-15 are available for all weeks of camp. Counselors must be age 16 by June 1, 2024 and CITs must be age 12 by June 1, 2024.

Counselors and CITs are required to arrive 30 minutes before and stay 30 minutes after camp start/end times each day in their assigned weeks.

Counselors

Farm Camp Counselors are youth ages 16+ who enjoy working with children in an outdoor setting and are enthusiastic and responsible. They each lead an assigned group of campers throughout their daily activities while supervising their safety and ensuring cooperation, engagement, and fun! This is a stipend position, with the stipend amount dependent on the number of weeks of participation.

All counselors will be required to commit to all three weeks of Farm Camp. Applications will be available in May.

Counselors in training

Counselors in Training (CITs) are youth ages 12-15 (must be of age by June 1, 2024) who are also Farm Camp alumni. They will work alongside counselors taking a leadership role to help keep younger campers happy, safe, and engaged. Along with the daily learning through camp activities, CITs will gain leadership, organization, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. This is an unpaid learning and leadership development opportunity.

The CIT position is a one-week position. Applications will be available in May.
