2025 Farmpreneur Program
Position Title: Farm Intern
Purpose: To empower youth to address food insecurity while exploring the world of urban agriculture, culinary arts, and entrepreneurship. We are committed to expanding the market for local organic food through the development and sale of "value-added" products. Through our innovative programs, we provide hands-on experience and holistic education, equipping young people with the skills and knowledge to make a meaningful impact in their communities. By integrating sustainable farming practices, culinary creativity, and business acumen, we foster a new generation of changemakers who are passionate about building a more resilient and equitable food system. Join us in sowing the seeds of opportunity and cultivating a brighter future for our youth and local food economy.
Program Duration: June- August
Time Commitment: on average 10-20 hrs/wk
Note: Hours will vary depending on the season, weather, and student schedules.
We will meet virtually on Wednesdays in June. (1 hour training)
Summer follows a Monday/Wednesday/Friday and some Saturdays work week in July and August.
Responsibilities:
● Watch educational videos, and answer assignment prompts
● Work with farmers to support the maintenance and care of our two Urban Farm sites
● Work with Farmers to maintain our flock of hens and bee hives
● Aid in organic pest management, composting, irrigation, etc.
● Harvest, weigh, and track produce
● Develop, plan, market, and sell value-added products
● Assist with mobile farm stand set up, sales, and breakdown
● Help with outreach and social media (website, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok videos, etc.)

Internship Payments:
Internship payments are processed through the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). Students and their families are responsible for:

Informing us of their acceptance into the program before the June start date.

Qualifications: High School juniors or seniors with good communication skills, who are enthusiastic and eager to try their hand at farming, culinary arts, and entrepreneurship are encouraged to apply. No previous farming or gardening experience is needed. Applicants are expected to work well with a group as well as take responsibility, and work independently. A serious interest in entrepreneurship, community service, healthy food, and farming will make this experience most valuable to you. Must be able to lift 40lbs, and enjoy working outside for long hours.
